The 7-Painting Family

It was the hottest day of summer so far. So hot, I didn’t want to read my book outside (and I ALWAYS want to read my book outside in summer).

I decided at the last minute to have a pop-up art sale on my back deck for Labor Day – because the weather promised to be sunny, and most people were off work.

I posted signs on my block only, inviting the neighbors to meet me, discover an artist in their neighborhood, and perhaps buy some art for their homes.

But the heat and humidity were so high, I didn’t see anyone walking around, and figured I had picked the wrong day.

I was cooling off in my living room, when through my window, I saw two young women pausing in front of the sign outside my front door.

I ran out to invite them to my back deck.

“Wow” was their reaction when they saw the artwork displayed.

Emma and Alexandra chose two paintings, and said “We need to return with our parents.”

Within a half hour, Bach and Sylvain (their Mom and Dad) returned with their daughters, pulling a big white dog that they were “babysitting.”

Mom chose 2 paintings for herself, Dad chose 1 for his office, and Emma chose another painting for her room.

“But wait” they said! “We have another daughter, who we want to buy a painting for. She’s at work now. We’ll come back in half an hour.”

About 30 minutes later, they returned with Catherine, who fell in love with a red painting for her room.

In total: 7 paintings!

Finally, it was 4 pm and I went to retrieve my posters from around the block.

As I was heading home, I heard someone call my name.

I was passing the home of the lovely Leger family, and they beckoned me inside to see the paintings, already hanging on their walls!

Then it was time for a photo shoot! What a special family, and a heart-warming day. We are forever connected through art.
