Why do I paint? Bee-cause...

I paint because I love to paint. But why do I paint flowers? The answer is Bee-cause…

Instead of talking about my art today, I want to talk about something very important to me (and to you too, as you’ll see by the end of this post).

Since it’s almost summer, the plight of bees has caught my attention.

Did you know that one of every three bites of food you eat exists because of pollinators?

Bees are top of the pollinators list. They pollinate 70 of the around 100 food crops that feed 90% of the world.

Did you know that one of the most important honeybee pollination partnerships is California almonds?

California produces 80 percent of the world's almonds. Without the bees, there would be no almonds.

Without bees, our supermarkets would have half the fruit and vegetables we have now.

But wait, there’s more. Here is a list of some of the foods we take for granted, that could disappear without bees:

Losing bees would be a disaster for our planet.

We would see a domino effect as many foods start to disappear one by one, and all animal species would struggle to find food.

Painting flowers allows me to connect with nature, and treasure our environment.

My lifelong quest has been to help save the planet for future generations. Saving the bees is vital to our survival.

Once More With Feeling, a vibrant flower painting, 20 x 20 inches

May 20 was World Bee Day!

Please consider supporting the bees in your neighborhood. Here are some things you can do:

1. Plant more flowers.

2. Leave some twigs on the ground for nesting spots.

3. Avoid pesticides.

4. Buy local and organic food as much as possible.

5. Support pollinator protection groups in your area.

6. Lobby for your city to become a Bee City.

Let’s work together to help save the bees!

I am donating a portion of my art sales in May and June to BeeCityCanada. If you want some art, now is the time to get it, and help us give back together!
