Do You Know the Biggest Color Trend of the Year?

Would you wear it? Would you decorate with it?

What is it?

It’s Pantone's Color of the Year for 2023, called Viva Magenta, and I for one, am thrilled.

Why? Because magenta is one of the main colors I use in my flower paintings.

What is Pantone, and why should you care?’

Pantone Color Institute defines and communicates information about color to industries around the world, including fashion and home décor. Their color choices influence colors around the globe.

Every year they come out with the colors of the next year. For anyone who works with color, it’s said to be the most exciting day of the year.

I remember the little Pantone color booklet from my Fine Arts Degree in university, many years ago – and still have it!

A Reason to Smile

Here is the painting they chose: A Reason to Smile

A Reason to Smile

A Reason to Smile was inspired after I received a lovely bouquet of flowers for my anniversary. What better reason to smile than gazing at the gorgeous flower colors?

An unconventional shade for an unconventional time

Here is how the Pantone Institute describes it:

“Pantone’s Color of The Year, Viva Magenta, vibrates with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength that revels in pure joy.

Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration.

Now, this shade may be too bold to paint a whole wall with, or even buy a sofa or dining room chairs.

But it’s an amazing shade to perk up any room, especially a dining room or living room.

Viva Magenta in Your Home

“Daring designers can harness the full power of the Color of the Year as a velvet couch or lacquered wall.

Those who desire a more neutral home can use it as a pop of color… punctuating an all-neutral dining room, or a glowing abstract canvas. Viva Magenta packs a lot of drama in a small dose.” Viva Magenta in your Home

As a bright, crimson red, Viva Magenta balances boldness with a feeling of fun.

So if you’d like to add a touch of drama and pizazz, combined with softness, to any space, check out my paintings that have splashes of magenta.
